A Musical and Dance Journey showcasing the Eight Classical Heroines
The ancient Indian sage Bharat-muni outlined eight types or moods of the heroine (“ashTa-naayikaa”) in a 2000 year old treatise about Performing Arts, entitled “NaaTya Shaastra”. These characterizations are evident even in modern times; in songs, films and classical dance. Calaa’s “AshtaNaayikaa” will enthrall non-connoisseurs and connoisseurs of classical art, through an entertaining presentation of scenes in Bhartnatyam and Kathak, songs by Bay Area talent, and original film clips.
