Born in Indore, armed with an MA in Music with Gold Medals from Indore University and AIR competition, and
gifted with an extremely melodious voice, Kalpana has learned from her father Shree Krishnarao (Mamasaheb)
Mujumdar, the ace disciple of Ustad Rajjab Ali Khan, famous court musician of Dewas. She has studiously
developed the 'Taan Ang', for which her gharana is so famous. Kalpana is currently receiving guidance from
Dr. Mrs. Sushila Pohankar and Shri V.U. Rajurkar, both scholars of the Gwalior gharana. Kalpana has
mesmerized audiences across the Indian subcontinent, UK and Africa. She has participated in major Music
Conferences and earned praise from stalwarts such as Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. She is an "A" grade artiste on AIR
and Doordarshan, and regularly gives performances of both classical as well as lighter variety on radio and
television.
